Project Overview

Verizon’s new 85,000 sq ft office occupies the landmark 1 Bishop’s Quay building in Limerick City centre, a prime riverside site rich in heritage and character.

Verizon’s aim was to design a people-first environment that inspires creativity, fosters community and attracts top talent.

MCA’s design brings this vision to life, from quiet zones and informal nooks to collaborative hubs and social areas. A central “wellness tower” forms the heart of the building, housing a library, yoga and fitness studios, wellness rooms and games areas above a striking double-height reception.
The top floor celebrates light and nature with lush planting, panoramic city views, open lounges and a barista café.

A key design objective for Dlight was to achieve a seamless ceiling integration while maintaining high lighting performance and uniformity. To meet this requirement, the team selected the Lightnet Matric-RX, a direct/indirect linear lighting system designed for architectural integration.

Both the ceiling system and the Matric-RX fixtures were manufactured by Lightnet, ensuring precise dimensional coordination and consistent material finishes across all elements.

This unified manufacturing approach allowed the luminaires to be recessed cleanly into the ceiling, eliminating multiple visible connection points and achieving a continuous appearance.

The Matric-RX’s dual light distribution provides controlled direct illumination for task areas and soft indirect light for balanced ambient quality. Its modular design and optical performance supported Verizon’s visual comfort, efficiency and aesthetic standards.

To complement the architectural lighting, Dlight specified and supplied decorative lighting from Flos, Bover and Eichholtz adding warmth, texture and visual interest to breakout spaces, reception areas and lounges. Additional task lighting from Rovasi and Lightnet provided focused performance where needed.

The result is a bright, balanced and adaptable lighting scheme that enhances wellbeing, supports productivity and complements MCA’s architectural vision. Verizon’s new workplace stands as a benchmark for sustainable, people-first design in Limerick’s evolving cityscape.
