Project Overview

Located in Dublin’s Grand Canal Dock, widely regarded as the city’s global technology hub, The Sidings is a office development that seamlessly blends architectural heritage with cutting-edge sustainability. Developed on a 0.37 hectare site formerly known as Boston Sidings, The Sidings pays homage to its railway past while delivering a contemporary commercial presence that meets the highest environmental and technological standards.

Designed by TOT Architects, sustainability was a central piller of the design strategy. The Sidings is the first triple platinum building in Dublin’s south docklands, holding LEED Platinum, WiredScore Platinum, ActiveScore Platinum as well as BER A3 and NZEB certifications, delivering industry-leading environmental performance.

Lighting plays a key role in both the spatial and environmental performance of the building while also honouring the site’s industrial heritage. In the foyer, a bespoke feature lighting installation traces the path of the original railway tracks from the former Boston Sidings, preserving a strong sense of place and identity.

Dlight collaborated with brand partner Lightnet on the design and supply of this feature pendant, using the highly adaptable Liquid Line G3 system. Chosen for its ability to follow the architectural geometry with seamless, curved configurations, the Liquid Line G3 offered the flexibility needed to realise a unique, site-specific lighting installation.

Lightnet’s software-driven production process and custom manufacturing enabled a bespoke solution that integrates harmoniously into the space.

The system features a 60mm suspended profile with direct-indirect light distribution, and includes a versatile set of modular elements, both curved and linear, with an innovative connector system. Each unit is a stand-alone luminaire with an integrated driver and can be effortlessly linked to form continuous arrangements. Precision engineered from a single piece of aluminium, the luminaire body is available in a variety of refined finishes including white, silver, graphite, black, champagne and copper-coated.

In the building’s stair core, Dlight supplied Proled LED strip lighting combined with LedsC4 mounting profiles. Proled’s ability to support longer continuous runs on a single power supply reduced the number of drivers required, streamlining installation and improving energy efficiency.
