Project Overview
Kelly’s Resort Hotel & Spa is a 4-star beachside sanctuary in Rosslare, County Wexford, offering luxurious accommodation, award-winning dining and a premier spa experience.
To enhance its guest offering, the client engaged LUCA Architecture to design an indoor/outdoor dining space that could be enjoyed year-round while maximising views of the Irish Sea and the hotel’s gardens.
The result is The Sea Rooms, a 60-seater garden restaurant housed in a standalone two-storey building, with sweeping sea views from the garden level and a lower level that opens onto an outdoor terrace.
Decorative lighting was chosen to compliment the interiors encompassing a simple palette of terracotta tiles that flow from inside to out, rough plaster throughout and a polished concrete floor softened by an acoustic timber roof upstairs.
Feature pendants from Tom Rossau hang over the staircase, with the TR41 series bringing a Nordic expression through its sculptural, asymmetrical slatted form.
From the garden-level, Gubi’s iconic Semi Pendants provide a diffused, cone-shaped light from their distinctive enamelled metal shades.
Complementing them, Karizma Luce’s Piccolo recessed downlights offer compact elegance and a subtle architectural presence.
For the outdoor areas, Light-Point’s Rorhat Wall Lamp delivers simple functionality with a timeless design. The lamp is available in several colours; for this project, rust was selected for exterior lighting and black for the indoor dining area.
Outdoor pathways are illuminated by the Genista 200 Bollard from Rovasi, an IP66-rated fitting with 360° light emission and a radial beam. Available in four heights and, on request, with a special coating for highly corrosive environments, it ensures both durability and visual consistency across the landscape.
The Sea Rooms exemplifies how architecture and lighting design can work in harmony to create an immersive dining environment. By integrating natural materials with carefully curated luminaires, LUCA Architecture delivered a space that balances functionality, atmosphere and a seamless connection between indoors and out.
